BURTON >> The Kingston girls basketball team hadn’t lost a game coming into Tuesday’s Class D quarterfinal.
However, the Cardinals had also never played Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes.
The Lakers handed Kingston their first loss of 2017-18 in a dominant performance, beating the Cardinals 42-28 to punch their ticket to the state semifinals at Calvin College on Thursday night.
“This team seems to be coming together at the right time,” WOLL coach Steve Robak said. “The girls really played their hearts out (Tuesday) and I think they showed a lot of poise and confidence. That’s important when you get to this point in the season. It’s easy to get rattled in these games and our girls showed no signs of that.”
