Our Lady of the Lakes athletic department announced today the hiring of three new varsity head coaches. Don Neal joins OLL as head coach of the varsity softball team, Shannon Morgan has been named girls varsity tennis coach and Jared Kullman will take over head coaching duties for the girls varsity soccer team.
Don Neal brings over 31 years of coaching experience that spans from community-based to high school and travel ball. Since 2007, he has been coaching softball primarily in a travel setting, coaching at the 14U, 16U, 18U and most recently 23U levels. His teams have played in state level tournaments as well as ASA Nationals. Neal has coached three teams in the USSSA World Series at ESPN Disney World. Due to the travel demands of summer, he took a break from travel ball and volunteered to work with Waterford Parks and Recreation to work with younger players allowing him to introduce them to the game and work on fundamentals.
Neal currently works at Wayne State University as the College of Nursing Instructional Training Grant Manager and Project Director/PI for the C2 Pipeline Program, a career and college readiness out of school time program for high school students. Neal holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and is currently pursuing another Master’s Degree in Sports Administration and Coaching.
Shannon Morgan brings a wealth of experience as both a coach and instructor to her new role as girls varsity tennis coach. Morgan previously served as the head tennis coach at Lake Orion High School. She also ran beginner and advanced beginner summer clinics for both children and adults, teaching basics and working on fundamentals.
Morgan began playing tennis at the age of 12 and is well versed, having played both doubles and singles in her tennis career. As a student-athlete at Lake Orion High School, she was the MVP her senior year at third singles, and part of several league championship teams. Morgan went on to play collegiately for Oakland Community College and Ferris State University.
Morgan has already been a very involved presence at Our Lady of the Lakes. As a current parent, Boosters officer, and avid volunteer, she brings a lot of enthusiasm and dedication to the table as her first year as girls tennis coach at Lakes.
In addition to being our Athletic Director, Director of Advanced Placement and Curriculum, and a teacher at Our Lady of the Lakes, Jared Kullman has signed on to be the next varsity girls soccer coach. Prior to joining the Our Lady of the Lakes family in 2017, he had been a teacher and both the Varsity Boys and Girls Soccer coach at Clawson High School.
Kullman has been coaching soccer at the varsity level for 13 years, with 24 seasons under his belt. In his 15 seasons as a head coach, he has totaled 188 wins and 7 league titles. Kullman brings a wealth of experience from several of the top leagues in the MHSAA. He has coached in the CHSL, having coached at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, Divine Child, and OLL; the KLAA having been the head coach at Waterford Kettering; and the Metro division, having coached at Clawson, before joining the M.A.C. in 2008.
“I am proud to do my best to help build and maintain a strong, stable, and competitive school and athletic program at OLL, but my passion has always been educating students and athletes. I tell every athlete I coach to recognize and always remember why they play. Helping them to overcome challenges and watching them succeed is truly a joy. That is why I coach.”
