Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic High School students, teachers, and parent chaperones, joined a half-million or more Pro Life Marchers for a witness to unborn life in Washington D.C. The group was also accompanied by Chris Scheuer and Ken Pfahl, two of the members of the Knights of Columbus from Our Lady of the Lakes, during the three day trip.
Each year on January 22nd , we remember the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision Roe vs. Wade. This year was the 47th anniversary. We pray that it will be the last March for Life and that there will be Legal Protection of Unborn Children. President Trump shared his support for the pro-life movement during the March for Life rally with a speech from the stage on the Ellipse. President Trump was the first president to address those present at the rally and the march. This was definitely the largest number of marchers on record. Our Lakers joined a significant group of marchers from the Archdiocese of Detroit led by Fr. Stephen Pullis, Director of Evangelization, Catechesis, and Schools. We were blessed to attend a rally and Mass at St. Matthew, the Apostle, Cathedral before the march and Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday evening. Our group had to sit on
the floor because so many teens were present at the Liturgy. What a wonderful witness and opportunity to stand 4 Life!
K
athy Lewis, Our Lady of the Lakes Campus Minister, would like to thank the teachers, parents, and Knights that volunteered their time to chaperone this arduous trip. This includes sleeping on the bus to and from D.C. and sleeping on the floor of our host church, St. Anthony. This Catholic parish in Long Beach, Maryland was so welcoming. St. Anthony Parish collected donations one weekend and the funds collected were used to feed our bus of Lakers. The parish staff and Knights of Columbus served a lovely dinner for all of us and the Ladies of Charity served a wonderful, hot, homemade breakfast. They also sent us on our way with loads of snacks and beverages. Their pastor, Fr. James Stack, said that the parish joins together to show the hospitality of St. Benedict to the marchers that stay overnight at their parish. We were the lucky recipients of their friendly, generous reception.
Again we thank our generous donors who supported this March for Life with prayers and financial help. We are grateful for all that you do for Our Lady of the Lakes students. This was an opportunity for our students to be a voice for the unborn.
