Lakers attend Junior High Vocation Awareness Day

Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School students attended the annual Junior High Vocation Awareness Day hosted each year for seventh graders by the Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit. Our very own associate pastor, Fr. Christopher, joined us at the seminary to support and encourage vocations, especially to the priesthood and consecrated life.

Mass was celebrated in the morning with all the students from schools around the Archdiocese of Detroit. Our very own Molly Ronquillo was chosen to be an altar server and Ben Schneider was a gift bearer. Bishop Francis Reiss was the celebrant.

After lunch and fellowship, Fr. Joe Horn, Director of Vocations, spoke to the boys about being open to the call to the priesthood, while three religious sisters and a consecrated woman addressed the girls on their vocation and the joy that they have received in their ministry. Discussion of the merits of priesthood and consecrated life hopefully will create a lasting impression with our students. Our students were encouraged to pray from a Seminary Vocation postcard prayer which each student received. 

Hopefully our students will prayerfully begin to discern their vocational calling to religious life, priestly life, married life or single life. We pray the Holy Spirit will guide both our seventh graders, and all Laker students to a vocation that will bring them true happiness.
