After losing their opener 23-19 the previous weekend, Lakes 5/6 Boys #1 rebounded and collected their first win 28-27 against Notre Dame Marist Saturday at home.
Lakes lead 17-12 at the half, but trailed by 21-20 entering the 4th quarter. Marist opened up a 3 point lead several times, but clutch shooting by Alex Asai and Vince Bracali would close the gap each time. An Alex Asai basket with 12 seconds left staked Lakes to a 28-27 lead. Notre Dame Marist missed two free throws in the closing seconds and the Lakes defense collected the rebound and ran out the clock for the victory.
Alex Asai ( 8 points) led a balanced Lakes scoring attack along with key contributions from Latane Ware (7 points), Vince Bracali (6 points) and Dylan Hamel (5 points).
Coach Blose commented after the game “The 4th quarter was incredible. We would trail by 3 points and Alex and Vince would respond to cut their lead back to 1 point. Our crowd was awesome all game, but they picked it up in the last quarter. All of the boys contributed to this win and they will remember this game for a long time. During our final timeout, I told the boys they are winning this game. We have a couple things that we need to tighten up this week in practice to prepare for our last game prior to Christmas Break.”
Lakes plays next against Our Lady of Refuge at home, this Saturday, December 21, 2019.
