Eighth grader victorious in spelling bee

After first rounds were held in individual classrooms, the top 18 seventh and eighth graders competed in the Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School Spelling Bee final. After the initial rounds, two eighth grade students, Maddy Rafferty and Justin Sigler, battled it out for 17 rounds until the winner was finally revealed.

Sigler (left) vanquished with the word “habitus”. He went on to compete in the Oakland Schools Scripps Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday.
