The 7/8 CYO Softball team put on an impressive display of offense in Tuesday’s league action. OLL took both games of the doubleheader against Notre Dame Marist. The Lady Lakers collected a total of 44 hits in the sweep of the Fighting Irish.
The Lady Lakers defeated Notre Dame Marist in the opener by a score of 20-5. Game 1 saw the Lakers fall behind 2-0 early in the game and being held scoreless through the first two innings. The Lakers tied the game in the third inning with a two-run homerun by 1B Katelyn Ward. The Laker bats started to heat up the rest of the way, unleashing a big 7-run rally in both the 5th and 7th innings. The Lakers ended with 25 hits in the game. Ward finished the game hitting 5-for-6 with 5 RBI’s. SS Amanda Roth went perfect at the plate, going 6-for-6 and a game high 6 RBI’s. 2B Kailey Mullins and P Bella Asai each had 3 hits driving in a combined 5 runs. Asai picked up the win on the mound, pitching a complete game with 15 strikeouts.
Game 2 saw the hot hitting continue for OLL in a 17-1 win that concluded after 3 innings. The Lady Lakers picked up another 19 hits in the nightcap with each player in the lineup getting a hit. Asai led the way with 4 hits while both Kailey Mullins (2-for-3) and Ward (3-for-4) drove in 4 RBI’s each. CF Grace McCarthy also chipped in with 3 hits and scoring 3 runs.
