During the extra time at home, Class of 2017 graduate Mary Campbell penned a fiction novel about a romance that springs up in the wake of a mysterious tragedy. She currently is attending Oakland University for accounting. We got the chance to ask her a little bit more about her book as well as her time at Our Lady of the Lakes.
Why did you write "For the Journey"?
I wanted to share a story I thought up. I wrote it during my free time in quarantine. I’ve always been interested in writing.
What does the title mean?
The Journey we all have in life is unique and beautiful.
What books have inspired you?
Harry Potter, The Lightning Thief, and many of the Nicholas Sparks books.
What was the more challenging part of writing this book?
Figuring out how much detail was enough and not to go overboard while still keeping it interesting and engaging.
What did you learn when writing this book?
I learned more about California’s culture and geography. Writing this book was such a cool experience. It was a dream come true
What's your favorite Our Lady of the Lakes memory? Spirit week. The games and senior hallway.
What do you miss the most about Lakes? The atmosphere and culture. Everyone being there for you and supporting you.
