Lakes 7/8 football posted their 3rd straight shutout and 5th straight victory on Saturday 26-0 against St. Michael’s/Redford Catholic in a first round CYO playoff game. A Robert Hoffman touchdown got Lakes on the board early and a William Burton to Luke Ronquillo 20 yard touchdown pass staked Lakes to a 12-0 halftime lead. A 3rd quarter Nick Blose touchdown run and Holtie Ware conversion upped the Laker lead to 20-0. A fourth quarter Elijah Durham touchdown closed out Lakes scoring. A strong defensive effort led by Anthony Hoffman, who blocked a punt, recovered a kick-off and also a fumble were keys to the victory.
Head Coach Chris Mersino commented after the game “Our offensive line blocked very well today and our defense was solid all afternoon. Our goal from the first day of practice was to make it to Ford Field and the boys have that opportunity with one more win. Our season started off slowly, but the boys have turned it around and are playing Laker football.”
Lakes plays West Catholic at Madison Heights Bishop Foley this Saturday, October 13 at 5:00 PM in the C/D Semi-Finals.
