On Friday March 6, the Our Lady of the Lakes Laker Robotics team went into the Milford High School Qualifier with one of the best looking and better prepared robots ever to grace the robotics room under St. Joseph’s Hall.
After 2 days of qualifying matches, Laker Robotics Team 5053 was ranked 16th out of 40 teams overall. In the playoffs, their 3-team alliance was seeded 7th (out of 8), paired with teams 7769 (O.S. Crew from Royal Oak) and 7753 (OSTC Sweet Bots from Wixom).
The alliance won 2 upset matches in the Quarter-Finals and 2 upset matches in the Semi-Finals against the 2nd and 3rd ranked alliances before heading to a final showdown against the 1st place alliance! Although they lost in the finals to a 3-time World Championship Team, the Laker Robotics’ alliance ended up finishing in 2nd place overall. The team learned a lot about their robot and will improve its shortcomings in the next few weeks!
The next opportunity to see the robot in action will be at the Woodhaven Qualifier in Brownstown, Michigan the weekend of March 27 – 28. It is the final attempt to qualify for the State Championship Competition at Saginaw Valley State University in April.
