The 7th graders are currently learning about genetics. They were given plastic Easter eggs with different color halves. The egg halves represent the two parents and their color is their phenotypes (observable characteristics). Students used the phenotypes to determine their genotype (set of genes) of each parent, and then set up a Punnett square. Inside each egg were colored candies that represent the children. If the student’s Punnett square was set up correctly, the phenotypes of the candy inside would match the genotypes of their Punnett squares.
